How is Infrared Sauna different than a traditional sauna?

Traditional saunas:

  • Operate at higher heat levels that warms the air around you, resulting in your body being heated up.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Temperature can range up to 195 degrees.keyboard_arrow_right

Infrared saunas:

  • Enhance heat generation within your body with a reduced amount of heat heating the air around you.  This produces greater sweat at a lower ambient air temperature.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Temperatures typically range between 115 to 135 degrees.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Warm up quicker than traditional saunas by producing heat through infrared lamps that use electromagnetic radiation, which directly warms your body before heating up the air.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Produce a more tolerable environment.  You can stay in the sauna longer while only raising your body temperature by approximately 2 to 3 degrees.keyboard_arrow_right

Infrared Therapy in Flower Mound

A breakdown of infrared wavelengths.

When you are outside, the sun’s rays produce both visible and invisible light spectrums, one of which is infrared rays. These invisible infrared rays are what causes the sun to generate warmth, and ultraviolet rays are what makes it shine so bright. Infrared waves are favorable in our overall wellness because they increase thermal energy within the body without the harmful UV rays of the sun.

  • Near infrared waves are the shortest, but permeate the deepest to raise your core thermal energy. Light therapy, or photobiomodulation, directly produces energy within the cells through ATP stimulation.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Mid infrared waves occur through water molecules in conjunction with improved circulation through vasodilatation. This encourages a temporary improvement in blood flow, increased heart rates, and overall metabolism.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Far infrared is the most similar of the wavelengths to the infrared heat that our body generates. Water molecules within your body capture far infrared waves and discharges its energy, resulting in a very natural feeling and a temporary increase of our energy. keyboard_arrow_right

Infrared saunas have been used for many years to treat people with various health conditions. It produces all the relaxation benefits of a traditional sauna at a more comfortable temperature.

Is there anything else I should know?

Although no reports of negative effects have been reported, please be aware that with any sauna experience, you may experience overheating, dehydration, or it may interfere with your medication. Additionally, persons who are pregnant, have heart disease, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol should be cautious. Please check with your doctor prior to your first use of an infrared sauna.

Fortunately, you can also decide how your session occurs. Here are some suggestions:

  • Be sure to hydrate before your session. You can also drink water during your session.keyboard_arrow_right
  • You can choose what temperature is best for you. We recommend that beginners start off with 100 degrees and increase from there as you continue with your sessions.keyboard_arrow_right
  • First time users may want to start with up to 15 minutes for your first session, then increase as needed, up to 30 minutes. Staying longer than 30 minutes puts you at risk for dehydration.keyboard_arrow_right
  • You can dress any way you’d like, whether it’s a swimsuit or naked.keyboard_arrow_right
  • Use whatever helps you relax – reading, listening to music, or meditation.keyboard_arrow_right

After your session, we recommend that you allow your body to cool down and drink plenty of water.
